Whether you are weeding out your inner creative or germinating the next generation of future gardeners, there are many ways for you to celebrate this Garden Day.
Kick off your gum boots, throw down the garden gloves and invite family and friends around to celebrate the joys of your own piece of planted paradise. Here are some ideas to help you get the most out of Garden Day.
We’re delighted to have the support of a wide range of people and organisations who share our passion for gardens and who want to get as many people as possible celebrating Garden Day on Sunday 15 October.

Tanya Visser, editor/presenter The Gardener
Garden Day is the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate the space that we have created with our blood, sweat and tears! Enjoy time in your garden with friends and family, and simply chill: pull out a blanket, have a braai, or take the celebration to a new level with snacks and champagne. My celebrations will involve my fur kids, a blanket on the lawn, the sizzle of the braai, all in the tranquility of my own garden. I can’t wait!
Jane Griffiths, gardening author
"Gardening teaches us to give nature the respect she deserves. My organic vegetable garden is not only my oasis and sanctuary, it provides us with healthy organic vegetables and herbs. For South Africa's second Garden Day, I encourage everyone to put down their phones and switch off the TV and go outside - into your garden or a friend's garden and enjoy reconnecting with nature."
Johan "Panda" du Preez, Starke Ayres
Besides my family, my two greatest passions in life are gardening and cooking, and I love nothing better than combining all three! That’s why this Garden Day I am going to celebrate in style with a high tea in my garden at home. There is nothing better than enjoying a spring day, in my beautiful garden with my beautiful family. I encourage you to do the same!
Suzanne Ackerman-Berman, Pick ’n Pay
“Garden Day is a valuable opportunity for people to celebrate their gardens and their gardening achievements with neighbours, friends and family. Spending more time in our gardens can do wonders for our well-being, helping us to feel happier and healthier. It gives us an opportunity to reconnect with nature and with where our food comes from. I’m looking forward to celebrating Garden Day in my own grey water garden, with friends and family.”
Life is a Garden
"The Life is a Garden campaign was launched by the South African Nursery Association to promote gardening as the ultimate leisure time hobby in our beautiful country. We feel that the Garden Day initiative aligns very well with our objectives and are so excited to be collaborating in the wonderful annual Garden Day campaign, for the second year in a row."
The South African Nursery Association has been an essential link between businesses in the gardening world for 70 years and represents the interests of nurserymen on all levels. We are all about plants and making our environment beautiful and believe that Garden Day is one of the perfect opportunities to spread this message. We are excited to be involved with this initiative for the second year in a row.
