Crown yourself King or Queen of Garden Day and complete your details below to register for our FREE flower crown maker stations on the 12th and 19th of October 2019 between 12:00 – 14:00. All materials will be provided and everyone is invited!
Celebrate Garden Day at beautiful Boshendal! Interact, learn, eat and play on 11 acres of organically grown gardens – a fun day out for the whole family. Experts from across SA will be in the garden explaining practices such as seed saving, pruning, composting and general plant care. Create flower crowns and Christmas garlands, mix your own botanical infused cocktails and taste our delicious farm-fresh produce. Kids will be entertained by the Tree House team about raised bed learning, bird feeder design and scavenger hunts. See website for further information on what experiences to expect. Entry to the garden is free. A map of activities will be available at the welcome station.
In celebration of Garden Day join the expert team of Foxglove Studio at Canal Walk to learn how to create your very own flower crown this weekend only. Foxglove are offering special offers in the effort to bloom up the world this Garden Day. Book soon to avoid disappointment.
The village of Kalk Bay is celebrating all things botanical this Garden Day with a full festival of activities, including a talks schedule focusing on indigenous plants, botanical street installations and curated flower themed shop displays and a photographic exhibition entitled “Underwater Gardening” where one can discover another world of gardens under the surface of False bay. There’s something for everyone. A Plant&seed bring-and-swop will take place all day on Sunday 20 October. Visitors to Kalk Bay village will also go home with their own envelope of seeds on the day.
Families are encouraged to join Alison Lovell, owner and gardener of Oxbox Country Estate, on Sunday 20 October for a guided tour of the organic vegetable garden and surrounds. Visitors can stay on to enjoy a leisurely lunch under the willow trees with food prepared straight from the garden.
Celebrate Garden Day with Norval Foundation! We’re hosting a day of fun and festivities for the whole family. Come join us for a variety of activities, including a tour of the sculptures, a treasure hunt, a drumming session and magic! Free admission to our Sculpture Garden all day!
Celebrate Garden Day at Backsberg Estate Cellars on Sunday 20 October. The estate will host a pop-up installation by Grow Box on their Rose Garden venue lawn for green thumbed visitors and guests are also invited to channel their creative creative with a flower crown and bouquet building station. Backsberg is offering pre-booked picnics and reserved picnic spots on the afternoon and the Backsberg Restaurant weekly Sunday lamb spit feast, will be accompanied by food harvested from the winery’s grounds. Pack a picnic and join Constantia Waldorf at the planting of their “Lemniscate” Teaching Garden on Saturday 19 October from 10am to 3pm. A drumming session will be followed by a guide to the basics of biodynamics and permaculture, through practical implementation. All are welcome to attend and dig in on the festivities. Don’t forget to take a plant with you and wear a flower crown.
In the lead up to Garden Day, Avondale Gardens in Durbanville is hosting an open garden for the public on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October. Come explore and get inspired. The entrance fee goes towards charitable causes. See the Avondale Gardens facebook page for further details.
Jozi Food Farmer and Bo Lets Yoga have teamed up for a unique Garden Day celebration on Sunday 20 October at JFF Rooftop Farm. Enjoy a 75 minute Yoga session followed by a 60 minute seminar on organic farming, whilst taking in the Johannesburg skyline. Booking is essential. Food Fanatics is hosting a Garden Day party at their unique venue, The Homestead on Saturday 19 October. Guests can look forward to a fresh Garden Harvest Table with an array of dishes inspired by, and using, fresh veggies and flavours from their home-grown garden. Stellenbosch Botanical Gardens is celebrating Garden Day this year by offering FREE entry to all visitors on the day (Sunday 20 October). Join them in the garden and you’ll also receive a seed packet of indigenous seed mix or natural pest control and pollinator mix to take home.

Happy Space is hosting a Garden Day party on Sunday 20 October. Join them in their indigenous garden and greenhouse of indoor ornamental plants. Visitors will be treated to a series of free talks by in-house collaborators (HAPPY BY NATURE and Plantify), as well as guest speakers throughout the day. Topics include supporting wildlife in urban gardens and how to repot your indoor plants. Refreshments will be on offer.
