Life is a Garden
"The Life is a Garden campaign was launched by the South African Nursery Association to promote gardening as the ultimate leisure time hobby in our beautiful country. We feel that the Garden Day initiative aligns very well with our objectives and are so excited to be collaborating in the wonderful annual Garden Day campaign, for the second year in a row."
The South African Nursery Association has been an essential link between businesses in the gardening world for 70 years and represents the interests of nurserymen on all levels. We are all about plants and making our environment beautiful and believe that Garden Day is one of the perfect opportunities to spread this message. We are excited to be involved with this initiative.
Peter Runkel, SANA
We are extremely proud to once again be supporting the wonderful Garden Day initiative, which has become a firm fixture on the calendar for our members and public alike. Gardening provides: beautiful and meditative spaces, places of wellbeing as well as being a very rewarding and creative outlet. I encourage all to join in the Garden Day celebrations by getting out and into the garden on the 21st October whilst enjoying time with friends and family.
Tanya Visser, editor/presenter The Gardener
Garden Day is the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate the space that we have created with our blood, sweat and tears! Enjoy time in your garden with friends and family, and simply chill: pull out a blanket, have a braai, or take the celebration to a new level with snacks and champagne. My celebrations will involve my fur kids, a blanket on the lawn, the sizzle of the braai, all in the tranquility of my own garden. I can’t wait!
Jane Griffiths, gardening author
Gardening teaches us to give nature the respect she deserves. My organic vegetable garden is not only my oasis and sanctuary, it provides us with healthy organic vegetables and herbs. For South Africa's second Garden Day, I encourage everyone to put down their phones and switch off the TV and go outside - into your garden or a friend's garden and enjoy reconnecting with nature.
Pat Featherstone, Founder and Director, Soil for Life
Garden Day is an almost unheard of opportunity to be unencumbered by the stresses of daily life. A time to reflect on the diversity of life in my garden grown in the way Nature intended. I will spend the day in silent reflection, alone with my menagerie, the medley of sounds that emerge from the trees, clucking of the hens as they forage for tiny morsels and the dogs slumbering alongside me. My magnifying glass will open me up to a whole new world of tiny creatures and plants that will reinforce in me the very Soul of the Universe.
Johan "Panda" du Preez, Starke Ayres
Besides my family, my two greatest passions in life are gardening and cooking, and I love nothing better than combining all three! That’s why this Garden Day I am going to celebrate in style with a high tea in my garden at home. There is nothing better than enjoying a spring day, in my beautiful garden with my beautiful family. I encourage you to do the same!
Suzanne Ackerman-Berman, Pick ’n Pay
Garden Day is a valuable opportunity for people to celebrate their gardens and their gardening achievements with neighbours, friends and family. Spending more time in our gardens can do wonders for our well-being, helping us to feel happier and healthier. It gives us an opportunity to reconnect with nature and with where our food comes from. I’m looking forward to celebrating Garden Day in my own grey water garden, with friends and family.
